What Characteristic Defines Moving Bed Biofilm Reactors (MBBR)?

بواسطة margan September 12th, 2025 49 مشاهدات

At first glance, MBBR may sound like a complicated technology, but the concept is actually quite simple. The “magic” lies in the small plastic carriers that float and move freely in the water.

On the surface of these carriers, a biofilm of microorganisms develops. These microbes are the ones that do the hard work—breaking down the organic matter in wastewater. Because the carriers are constantly moving, the biofilm stays active and well-oxygenated.

So the key characteristic of MBBR is clear: the moving carriers that provide a home for biofilm and allow it to work efficiently. Thanks to this, MBBR systems are compact, flexible, and easier to operate compared to more traditional methods.
